Diane Warren will receive an honorary Oscar after being nominated 13 times

Songwriter Diane Warren reveals she is ‘still in shock’ after learning that she was selected to receive an honorary Oscar after losing 13 nominations.

Just days after learning the exciting news, the Grammy Award winner, 65, joked she would be putting the highly-coveted statuette ‘in bed’ with her.

‘This is going to be staying at my house. I’m gonna put it on my piano, and I’m gonna look at it everyday. I’m really proud of it, and I’m not taking it for granted at all,’ she raved to Variety.

The Rhythm of the Night hitmaker continued: ‘I’m so f**king proud and happy. I’m so excited to have gotten this. The Governors Award is some pretty deep respect.’

Warren, who will accept the trophy in November, also remarked that she loves when ‘people don’t take it seriously and they say they’re going to use it as a doorstop in the bathroom.’

‘I’m like, “No, you did not. It’s sitting there where you can look at it every f**king day,” the star mused.

During the interview, Warren pointed out she is the ‘only songwriter’ to have ever been awarded the Governors Award.

‘That is amazing. Every f**king thing about this is amazing,’ she gushed. ‘The thing is — and what’s interesting — is that it was just Father’s Days weekend, so someone is up there pulling strings. In my mind, someone is looking out for me.’

In March, after losing her 13th Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song to Billie Eilish for Best Original Song, Warren insisted she didn’t mind going home empty-handed.

‘If I had to choose winning years ago and then never getting nominated again, I would choose this. Because this is longevity, this is respect by my peers, which is the best. That’s a win,’ Warren told People.

She continued: ‘It’s a legacy. It’s like, I’m still in the game. My first nomination was 1988 and I’m still here. How cool is that?’

Despite her loss, Diane admitted that just the nomination was an honor and she’s happy to continue creating.

‘Getting nominated this year was hard. You know, no one even saw it coming,’ she said. ‘I was like, “Well, I’m not sure about this one,’ but people love the song.”

She added: ‘It feels great because it’s like The Little Engine That Could, so I love that. And a little engine can go far, so we’ll see on Sunday.’

Warren’s long history with the Academy Awards dates back to her first nomination for Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, in 1988 and then nearly a decade later in 1997 for Because You Loved Me.
