Dante is the main protagonist throughout the Devil May Cry franchise, and who has had cameos in everything from Marvel Vs. Capcom to Shin Megami Tensei. Along with superhuman powers, he’s known for wielding his dual pistols, Ebony and Ivory, and having a particular fondness for pizza.
Dante is the second son of the demon Sparda and the human Eva, and the younger twin brother of Vergil. Working as a private investigator and devil hunter at his Devil May Cry demon-hunting agency, Dante’s sole drive is to seek vengeance against those who corrupted his brother and killed his mother.
The main figurehead behind this is evil demon lord Mundus, who ordered Eva’s death and corrupted Vergil (who was known back then as Nero Angelo). Mundus is the main antagonist in the original Devil May Cry, and was sent screaming back into the Underworld after a confrontation with Dante.
Fast forward to the end of Devil May Cry 4, which saw Dante kill alchemist Agnus who opened a hellgate to unleash demons upon the land. The final battle had him team up with Nero, Vergil’s son, to defeat Order of the Sword’s leader Sanctus and the Savior as they threatened to take over the world.
Dante entrusts Vergil’s trademark sword Yamato, once wielded by their father Sparda, to Nero following the final confrontation. The pair go their separate ways, with Dante returning to his Devil May Cry agency to pick up another call from a customer.
