Devastated Benik Afobe says daughter, 2, ‘lives inside her little sister’s heart’ after she dies suddenly from infection


BENIK Afoba has said his two-year-old daughter, who died suddenly from a severe infection, lives on in the heart of her little sister.

The devastated 26-year-old former Arsenal and Wolves player has issued an emotional statement after the death of Amora.

The striker and his wife Lois Smith, who he married in 2016, said that Amora has a one-year-old little sister called Alba.

“We will be strong for her and Amora now lives inside her little sisters heart and will drive her to grow up and be bold and brave like her older sister was,” he said.

“We trust in our Lord Jesus Christ and when we are weak he comforts us. He will protect the family and gives is strength always.

“You’ve all given us hope and showed the world can come together at times like this and we can all be one.

“We want to bounce back and show people that even when we are grieving, we can make a comeback and be strong and never quit in anything you want to do or become.”

The DR Congo internationalist also said he wanted to thank everyone who has sent messages of support to him and his wife.

“I wish I could reply to every person that has messaged me to tell everyone how much it means to us all from the bottom of our hearts,” he said.

Announcing the death of his daughter, a statement from Bristol City, where he is currently on loan at Bristol City from Stoke, said Amora unexpectedly developed a “severe infection”.

She then suffered a “number of serious complications” and “passed away peacefully with the love of her family by her side”.

Afobe joined Arsenal in 2001 as a youth player, and signed a professional contract in 2010. He spent loan spells at several clubs before being bought by Wolves in 2015.
