Dev Griffin: Strictly star admits he's avoiding chat with former co-stars after shock exit

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 contestant Dev Griffin, 34, and Dianne Buswell, 30, became the third couple to leave the show after a dance-off with Viscountess Emma Weymouth and Aljaž Škorjanec last weekend.

Today, the BBC radio one presenter revealed he is avoiding the cast’s WhatsApp group as he believes there is no need for him to look at the messages anymore.

In a conversation with his co-star Alice Levine on their show today, the latter said a Game of Thrones actor had revealed the cast’s WhatsApp group is “dead” following the end of the HBO series earlier this year.

Dev then shared his own experience, adding: “I was in a similar situation with… we have a WhatsApp group for the Strictly cast of 2019.”

“Ah, let it die,” Alice jokingly chimed in.

He added: “I haven’t checked it since I got booted off last week… I just thought none of these messages are going to be for me now.

“I don’t want to leave because it’ll look a little bit like I’m throwing my toys out the pram, so.”

Alice went on to suggest Dev should mute the group for “a week,” to which he suggested “a year” would be better.

Following his exit last weekend, many viewers flocked to social media to express their shock.

Yesterday, he admitted he had been lapping up the sympathy from his co-stars who welcomed him back to the show.

Alice told listeners: “I must say walking through the office, I thought, ‘Why is he being greeted like a hero?’

“Great to have you back? Where’s he been? He’s been down the road.”

“Sympathy is actually really delicious,” Dev replied. And I have been gorging myself on some of that around the office.

“It’s very good for the ego, I have to say,” he added.

Reflecting on their exit, Dev’s ex dance partner Dianne Buswell said she was “heartbroken” for the pair to be voted out of the show so early on.

In view of her 810,000 Instagram followers, she wrote: “My heart is broken. This guy had so much to give and worked sooooo hard.

“I’m so sorry your journey was cut short, you have done me so proud, every week you would say you just didn’t want to let me down!”(sic)

The dancer added: “Dev you sooo didn’t you were a dream to teach and you were turning into such a great dancer.

“Thank you so much for everything.”(sic)

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.40pm on BBC One.
