Details of Red Velvet star Wendy’s accident before the SBS Gayo Daejeon show have begun to emerge.

The star broke her pelvis and wrist and cracked her cheekbone after a horror accident during rehearsals for Red Velvet’s stage at the annual Christmas Day concert in Seoul.

And new reports claim that Wendy fell to the stage as stairs ‘were not set in place’ when she was rehearsing during the Aladdin OST Speechless soundtest.

A report from Dispatch cited a source as saying: ‘Wendy climbed to the second-floor tunnel, as scripted. She was prepared to go down the stairs during the song. But the stairs were not set in place. At that moment, she lost her balance and fell down the stage.’

They added: ‘The second-floor tunnel was dark and cramped. The stairs were not ready. Not even the common fluorescent marking was visible so that was how she fell 2.5 metres.’

Wendy was taken immediately to hospital, with SM Entertainment saying: ‘She sustained injuries to her face and fractures in her pelvis and wrist on the right side of her body. She has undergone emergency treatment and is currently awaiting additional examinations.

‘As her health comes first, we will focus on her treatment.’

SM later confirmed that the rest of Red Velvet – who did not go ahead with their SBS Gayo Daejeon performance – will attend two festivals on 27 and 31 December, but won’t perform as a group.

The agency said: ‘With the exception of Wendy, the other four Red Velvet members will only participate individually such as for their planned collaboration stages and MC role at the KBS Song Festival and MBC Music Festival, and Red Velvet will not perform as a group.

‘Wendy is currently hospitalised and receiving treatment. She will focus on treatment until her health is recovered.’

SBS also issued a statement following Wendy’s accident, saying: ‘On December 25, there was an unfortunate accident during rehearsals for 2019 SBS Gayo Daejeon that led to Red Velvet’s Wendy sustaining injuries.

‘As a result, Red Velvet is unable to appear in the live show of 2019 SBS Gayo Daejeon, and we sincerely apologiSe to fans and viewers. We hope that Red Velvet’s Wendy will have a fast recovery, and SBS will take greater care to ensure safety in the future.’
