Derby County could yet be demoted to League One after the EFL announced the sanctions imposed upon the Rams.
A late night statement by the league, issued at 11.50pm on Wednesday evening, confirmed that the club have been fined £100,000 for their accounting policies.
It relates to the amortisation of player registrations. However, the league also confirmed that, pending any appeal, they had developed an “interchangeable” fixture list for next season for both Derby and Wycombe Wanderers, while the disciplinary process is finalised.
Derby finished fourth-bottom last season in the Championship, with Wycombe relegated as the third-bottom club.
A retrospective points deduction would see the clubs swap places next season.
The timing of this decision came just hours before today’s fixture lists for next season are published. The lists are out at 9am this morning.
The Rams, bossed by ex-England striker Wayne Rooney, will also have to resubmit three years worth of accounts.
Derby have yet to publicly comment.
They were originally charged in January 2020 over allegedly breaching financial rules. Last August an independent disciplinary commission cleared the Rams of any wrongdoing but the EFL pressed forward with an appeal over a second charge, specific to the amortisation aspect of the charge.
