NEW PORT RICHEY — Two Walmart clerks are accused of defrauding their store out of about $5,000 by marking video games down to $1 and reselling them at a higher price, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
Seth Lulow, 19, of New Port Richey and Dominic McGhee, 20, of Holiday were arrested Friday.
They each face charges of scheming to defraud, and Lulow faces additional charges of dealing in stolen property and false verification of ownership.
The two men were part of a four-person scheme to defraud the Walmart Supercenter at 8745 State Road 54, deputies said.
Two other suspects had not yet been arrested as of Monday. The Sheriff’s Office declined to say whether they work at Walmart.
Security cameras caught Lulow marking down games on eight occasions between April 1 and April 23, deputies said.
He would change the prices in a back room and later buy them at a self-checkout station, deputies said.
After his arrest, Lulow told deputies he marked the games at $1, bought them and sold them to local game shops, according to an arrest report.
Deputies said Lulow stole almost $3,800 from the store.
McGhee appeared in the security footage too, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
He met with Lulow at least twice to choose games to discount, deputies said.
On one occasion, McGhee met Lulow and another person and brought a box of marked-down games to a checkout register, where they sold them to each other, deputies said.
On another occasion, McGhee marked down 22 items and sold them to his friends, deputies said.
He stole a total of $771, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Lulow was being held Monday on $87,500 bail. McGhee was released after posting $5,000 bail.
