Demi Lovato has announced she is taking a break from social media, just days after hitting back at a troll who fat shamed her on Instagram.

The Confident singer told fans she was ‘taking a break for a while. Be kind’ on her Instagram story, posting on a photo of her looking downhearted onstage.

At the start of the week, Demi hit back at a troll that posted an unflattering paparazzi photo of her, captioned: ‘hey Demi dm me so we can discuss a diet plan for you’.

She replied: ‘I actually am choosing not to diet and fall back into unhealthy behaviors at the risk of losing my sanity or mental health but thank you for the offer! Super sweet.’

Demi has been open about her struggles with eating disorders over the years, and has opted to live a healthier lifestyle instead of fixating on her size.

In her 2017 YouTube documentary, Simply Complicated, Demi revealed details about how her eating disorders had taken over her life in the past.

She revealed that she had relapsed around the time of her split from Wilmer Valderrama: ‘When I was in a relationship with Wilmer I went three years without purging and when we broke up that’s one of the first things I did.

‘The less I have to think about food, the easier it is to go about having a normal life and I don’t want to let anybody down so when I do have moments when I slip up, I feel very ashamed.

‘And when I feel lonely, my heart feels hungry and I end up bingeing.’

It’s no wonder Demi wants to take a break from social media, which is often full of toxic comments from trolls looking to get a reaction.

The singer has been doing well after her recovery from an overdose last year, when she relapsed after six years of sobriety and then entered into a rehab facility.
