West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has praised Scott McTominay following his man-of-the-match display in Manchester United’s victory over Leeds on Sunday.

McTominay scored a quick-fire double in the opening three minutes at Old Trafford to put United on course for a 6-2 win against Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

And Rice was very impressed by McTominay’s latest performance as he sent a message of support to the United midfielder after the game.

In a message to the Scotland international, Rice wrote: ‘Different class today.’

And McTominay replied: ‘Top boy, keeping [sic] doing the business pal.’

Rice and West Ham are in action on Monday evening as they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, McTominay’s display was also praised by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the United manager claiming that the 24-year-old was ‘crucial’ to his side’s win.

‘He’s a physical monster,’ said Solskjaer.

‘He does all his work every day, never shirks and gets his rewards with his fitness and his technical work.

‘He can do everything. He used to be a striker and he showed he can be a handful in and around the box.

‘That energy and drive in a derby was crucial.’

During his commentary of the game for Sky Sports, former United defender Gary Neville said: ‘He is emerging and growing.

‘He’s someone Ole can rely upon in the big games with Fred and Fernandes in front of them. Then Pogba, Matic and Van de Beek fit in around that.’
