‘I’d just want it to be a very good show’: Deborah Mailman and Claudia Karvan discuss a Secret Life of Us reboot as the former co-stars pose for Stellar

Samuel Johnson, who played Evan Wylde on The Secret Life of Us, said he would return to a reboot of the hit show, during an appearance on Sydney radio in July.

And in Sunday’s Stellar magazine, former co-star Claudia Karvan, 47, asked Deborah  Mailman, 47, whether she’s keen for the cast to reunite on-screen.

During their interview for The Daily Telegraph’s glossy lift-out, it appeared the Indigenous actress needed a little convincing.

‘One last question on Secret Life [of Us] because Sam [Johnson] has said there can only be a reboot if the old cast is involved… Should there be a reboot?’ Claudia asked Deborah.

‘I’d just want it to be a very good show,’ Deborah, who played Kelly Lewis on the show, responded.

Imagining what it would be like to have the original members back together, Claudia joked: ‘A whole lot of old people sharing a flat in St Kilda? Ah, change the channel.’

Speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O show in July, cast member Samuel Johnson, 41, said he would be keen for a reboot if certain cast members also returned.

Kyle Sandilands prompted the actor by asking: ‘Would you ever do a ‘The Secret Life of Us’ reboot? Because everyone’s rebooting. SeaChange is coming back.’

‘You know what? Everything comes back around. Just start wearing flares and they’ll come back around too. Everything comes back around doesn’t it?’ Samuel replied.

Samuel seemed unenthusiastic, but changed his tune when Jackie ‘O’ Henderson asked: ‘Claudia Karvan, would she do it do you think?’

‘If she did it, I’d do it,’ Samuel quickly replied.

‘Claudia, who played Dr. Alex Christensen on the show, is one of the show’s success stories, going on to star in other hit shows including Love My Way and the Puberty Blues reboot.

However, the biggest success story from the TV drama is Hollywood actor Joel Edgerton, who has since appeared in two Star Wars films, Zero Dark Thirty and The Great Gatsby.

Samuel pointed out to the radio hosts: ‘We’d have to get Joel Edgerton back from the States and that would be tough.’

‘He’s struggling for work that fella, isn’t he?’ he jokingly added. ‘Poor him. Everyone goes to the States. I like here and just picking up the crumbs!’
