Debbie McGee: Strictly star suffers huge live on-air blunder before blaming co-star

Debbie McGee, 60, who appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, took to the radio airwaves to discuss her bank holiday weekend before making a mistake. The Strictly finalist chatted to her co-star Rob as about paddle boarding in the summertime before admitting she’d be too “frightened” to do it. Speaking to listeners, Debbie said: “Yesterday evening I had just a few moments to myself in the garden watering the pots. “There was loads of paddle boarders out as well. One had a dog sitting on it. I don’t know how you’d balance.

“Not that I’ve ever had a go myself.”

She continued: “And a couple of people had people sitting on the front of their paddle board which I thought was extremely brave. But I have to say, it’s made me want to have a go.”

She then asked her colleague: “Have you ever had a go Rob?

“I’m frightened of falling in. So that’s why I wouldn’t do it”

Rob replied: “I fell in while I was on holiday. And I did it with my girlfriend. We thought this will be nice.”

As he was explaining his family getaway a mobile phone ringtone sounded off in the background.

Rob quizzed: “Was that your phone?”

A seemingly alarmed Debbie replied with some hesitation: “Erm…no?”

Her colleague replied: “Do you want me to take the fall if anyone’s listening?”

The Strictly finalist then blamed her co-star Julian Perkins for the blunder stating that he’d left his phone in the studio.

She said: “It was Julian,” before suggesting to her listeners that she was actually her singing.

Debbie chuckled: “It was me singing.”

Elsewhere, Debbie recently offered support to her late husband’s son, Martin Daniels, after he made a revelation on Twitter.

Martin took to the micro-blogging site to thank his followers for their well wishes after his son and fellow magician, Lewis Daniels, had to undergo a kidney transplant.

In view of his 2,541 followers, he wrote: “Thank you to the followers who are sticking with me over these weeks. Don’t have much going on as I’m looking after my son following his kidney transplant.”

Debbie replied: “Keep strong Martin we are all with you and thinking of you constantly Much love xx.”
