Debbie McGee: Strictly star honours late husband Paul Daniels as she speaks on 'sad news'

Strictly Come Dancing star Debbie McGee, 61, took to Twitter and posted a photo of her late husband Paul Daniels. The magician died in March 2016 aged 77 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour, and Debbie has spoken openly about her grief following his death.

The BBC Radio Berkshire host made a heartfelt tribute on what would have been the couple’s 32nd wedding anniversary.

In view of her 32,000 followers, Debbie shared a photo of Paul in the midst of snapping a beautiful mountain during a romantic getaway.

Debbie captioned her tribute: “32 years ago today it was warm and sunny & I married this very special man. I miss him every day but always thankful I had him in my life.”

Her post was flooded with supportive messages from fans saying they were “thinking of her,” including some from her Strictly co-stars Charlotte Hawkins and Alexandra Burke.

He had been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour a year before his death.

Debbie has previously spoken of her grief after losing Paul and admitted it worsened when she stopped working.

“It didn’t come immediately after Strictly,” she recalls. “I did panto afterwards — God knows how I got through that, but I did. Then I went on tour with Strictly.

“Then around March — a difficult month because Paul died in March, his birthday is in March, our anniversary is in March — I got home, and I just stopped.”

She added: “I didn’t want to get out of bed. I couldn’t make a cup of tea. Part of it must have been sheer physical exhaustion, but there was more to it. I changed. My brain had changed.”

The poignant tribute comes as she also took the opportunity to speak on the death of comedian Eddie Large.

Debbie shared a heartfelt tribute to the legend as she reacted to the “sad news”.

The Strictly star penned: “Just heard the very sad news of another victim of the virus, the very talented and lovely man Eddie Large. Little and Large made me laugh so much. Their show was huge in the 80’s. My love goes out to his wife Patsy and family.”
