Debbie McGee: Paul Daniels’ widow follows in footsteps of Barbara Windsor with new role

Debbie McGee, 60, took to Twitter yesterday to announce some exciting news.

The former ballerina told her 41,700 followers that she was “so proud” to attend the 90th anniversary party of a showbiz organisation and be named as the president of their fundraising charity.

Debbie follows in the footsteps of EastEnders actress Barbara Windsor, 82, to become the President of the Cup Kindness for The Grand Order of Lady Ratlings.

The organisation, which was established in 1929, welcomes singers, dancers, magicians and those in the theatre or TV industry.

As Debbie worked as a magician’s assistant, performing with her late husband Paul Daniels, she was able to join the unique organisation before earning her promotion.

As president she will be involved in fundraising events organised by the charity.

The former Strictly Come Dancing finalist told her followers: “So proud to have attended ⁦@LADYRATLINGS⁩ 90th Anniversary bash & installed as President of the Cup of Kindness following in the footsteps of Dame Barbara Windsor DBE & Carmen Silvera.”

She continued, “But most importantly helping people like Liz in the photo have a better life”.

In the picture that accompanied the post, Debbie could be seen in the order’s traditional light blue sash with the current Queen Ratling – Fiona Paige and another woman, presumably Liz.

Carmen Silvera, an actress best-known for her performance in ‘Allo ‘Allo, was a past Queen of the order and President of the Cup of Kindess before her death in 2002 at the age of 80.

The organisation also has a royal member in its midst, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal is the Companion Ratling.
