Death Stranding release date is here at last, with the latest offering from visionary director Hideo Kojima finally in gamers’ hands.

After years of mysterious teasers and much speculation Death Stranding has finally launched on the PS4.

Kojima’s first game since the Konami split, Death Stranding boasts a stunning cast led by Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus as well as a fascinating premise.

It’s fair to say Death Stranding is unlike anything you’ve ever played before, and right now it can only be played on the PS4.

To mark the Death Stranding release date we have rounded up all you need to know to get ready for the game’s launch.

DEATH STRANDING – WHAT IS THE METACRITIC SCORE? WHAT ARE THE REVIEWS LIKE?

At the time of writing Death Stranding has a Metacritic score of 83 per cent and an OpenCritic score of 85.

The OpenCritic rating for Death Stranding is classified as “Mighty” while for MetaCritic it means Death Stranding has “generally favourable reviews”.

Death Stranding has had plenty of 10/10 ratings and nine out of 10 scores, but it has also had a number of lower scores.

You can find a more in-depth review round up below, and you can also click here to be directed to our Death Stranding review.

We were left hugely impressed with Kojima’s latest, awarding it five out of five stars and describing it as one of his best games.

DEATH STRANDING – ARE THERE ANY TIPS FOR GETTING TO GRIPS WITH THE DEATH STRANDING GAMEPLAY?

In Death Stranding you will make plenty of deliveries, and you can choose how much cargo you want to take on any trips you make fulfilling orders.

The biggest tip we can offer is to be careful and notice when the weight of the cargo you’re carrying is highlighted in yellow in the menu screen.

This means that the weight of all the cargo Sam is carrying is getting tricky for him to handle.

He’ll still be able to move, and it won’t be nearly as bad as when you exceed the cargo limit.

But it will still be a heavy load, and you’ll likely find yourself having to press the shoulder buttons when walking around to centre Sam’ balance.

If you manage to keep the weight of the cargo and equipment you’re carrying under a weight that appears highlighted in yellow then you should be fine.

Sam is much easier to control when he’s carrying a weight that isn’t highlighted in yellow in the menu screens.

And when that’s the case Death Stranding is a much more enjoyable game to play.

It’s also a good idea to use the auto sort feature in the cargo screen, especially when you pick up lost cargo you find on your travels.

DEATH STRANDING – WHAT HAVE THE REVIEWS BEEN LIKE? WHAT SCORES HAS DEATH STRANDING BEEN GETTING?

Here is a round-up of some of the Death Stranding reviews from a number of publications…

Death Stranding review – TheSixthAxis – 10/10: Death Stranding is like nothing I have ever played; beautiful, heart racing, heart breaking, frustrating, epic, stunning, and utterly nuts. I laughed, I cried, I cursed, and I went to the toilet an awful lot. Death Stranding isn’t just my Game of the Year, it’s a contender for Game of the Generation too.

Death Stranding review – GameSpot – 9/10: “It argues in both its story and its gameplay that adversity itself is what makes things worth doing and life worth living. It’s a game that requires patience, compassion, and love, and it’s also one we really need right now.”

Death Stranding review – Kotaku: “Death Stranding’s most fundamental point is not hard to understand. Yes, this is hell. Yes, we are falling apart. Yes, this might be the end. But there is redemption in other people.”

Death Stranding review – Eurogamer – Recommended: “Hideo Kojma’s first post-Metal Gear game is a messy, indulgent vanity project – but also a true original”

Death Stranding review – Express.co.uk – 5/5: “In the same way that MGS was a defining PS1 game, Death Stranding will be remembered as one of the most remarkable games of the PS4 era.”

Death Stranding review – IGN – 6.8/10: “There is a fascinating, fleshed-out world of supernatural science fiction to enjoy across its sprawling and spectacular map, so it’s a real shame that it’s all been saddled on a gameplay backbone that struggles to adequately support its weight over the full course of the journey.”
