Death in Paradise season 9: DI Jack Mooney set for romance as first details revealed?


Filming for the ninth series of Death in Paradise in underway in Guadeloupe with Ardal O’Hanlon returning as DI Jack Mooney.

The detective will be back solving murders across the island of Saint Marie and it looks like he could be set for a new romance.

First details of the new series have revealed DI Jack will be shocked when he receives a surprise kiss.

A teaser reads: “Series nine will see the Honoré Police team get to know their new DS, Madeleine, while a surprise kiss catches Jack off guard…”

DI Jack will return alongside Office JP Hooper (Tobi Bakare), Officer Ruby Patterson (Shyko Amos) and Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington).

Catherine Bordey (Elizabeth Bourgine) will also be back with newcomer DS Madeleine Dumas (Aude Legastelois)

Speaking about the new series, executive producer Tim Key, said: “We’re thrilled to be back in Guadeloupe with our fantastic cast and crew getting to work on more ingenious murder mysteries in the Caribbean sun.

“We can’t wait for the audience to see what we’ve got in store for series nine – there are some big surprises coming.”

Following the success of the eighth series earlier this year, it was confirmed the BBC show would return in 2020.

Not only was it confirmed the show would return in 2020 but it was revealed there would be another two series.

While an air date has not yet been confirmed, previous series have been broadcast in January suggesting season nine will return early next year.

Sharing the exciting news, Tim said: “We’re over the moon with the response to series eight and can’t wait to get back to Guadeloupe to start filming the new series.

“It’s an honour to be part of a show which is so loved by its audience and the decision to commission two series shows how much it is valued by the BBC.”

Tommy Bulfin, BBC Drama Commissioning Editor, added: “We are delighted to announce that Death in Paradise is coming back to BBC One. The show is a jewel in our roster of top drama and we are thrilled that it’s returning.”

The last series saw beloved character DS Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert) leave Saint Marie after her fiancé Patrice Campbell (Leemore Marrett Jr) was killed.
