Death in Paradise: DI Jack Mooney killed by Anna as history repeats itself?

The BBC detective Death in Paradise  show is well-known for its police force having to solve the most dramatic murders in the quietest of holiday destination. As viewers know, DI Mooney (played by Ardal O’Hanlan) will be leaving the series after just three years, but could it be his newest love interest Anna Houghton (Nina Wadia) who gets rid of him for good? Or will he be heading back to the UK?

As viewers know, Jack and Anna have been seen spending a lot of time together, but it’s not been plain sailing.

Some are convinced Jack could head back to the UK with his new love to start a new life, following in the footsteps of Humphrey Goodman’s (Kris Marshall).

But will it be that easy or will he be killed off like DI Richard Poole by a fellow student when he threatened to expose her identity theft.

Jack has been a staple of the show since 2017, but recently revealed that it was “high time to leave”.

Last night, Jack and Anna were seen cuddling up in a bar, but when they left Jack told her: “It’s not just the island I will miss, it’s you as well.”

The question is, are Anna’s intentions completely pure or has she got a hidden agenda?

JP Hooper (Tobi Bakare) was seen asking Jack if he was going to miss Anna when she left the island.

He was seen giving him a knowing look and later viewers watched as Jack told her to stay on the island with him.

But, Anna had to really think about whether it was worth staying, but is he writing his own death warrant keeping her on the island?

Anna isn’t the only woman looking for a relationship with Jack, last night also saw Catherine (Élizabeth Bourgine) hinting that she’d love to go out with the detective.

Jack opened up to Catherine saying: “To be honest, I never saw myself in this situation, with another woman… at my age.”

She told him: “She’s [Anna] here for a few weeks, and then she leaves so all this can ever be is a brief liaison, do not do your head in!”

“Maybe you’re right Catherine, maybe I should relax about the whole thing, it’s just a man and a woman having fun together, nothing wrong with that,” Jack replied.

Could this be his last chance at love with Anna and will he take it?

It’s thought that Jack will leave around episode four of this series, and will be replaced by Ralf Little as DI Neville Parker, but how long will he last?

One viewer tweeted: “Ralf Little is the new DI on Death In Paradise. There is a God.”

Another added: “Definitely @RalfLittle !!! I bloody love this show, the team always pick the best cast #deathinparadise.”

It seems Ralf Little has actually already appeared in the detective show, he previously appeared in the Caribbean-set show in the sixth episode of the second season.

He starred as Will Teague, a holidaymaker who arouses the suspicions of Detective Richard Poole after an English tourist is found dead in his luxury villa.

Death In Paradise continues on BBC One next Thursday at 9pm.
