Dead Island 2 coming to next gen consoles suggests job ad, if it releases at all…

Dead Island 2’s development status may be up in the air, but a recent job posting suggests it’s coming to next gen systems.

Remember Dead Island 2? Whatever happened to that, eh? Despite being announced in 2014, the game has been hit with a few delays, but we have been told as recently as last year that it hasn’t been cancelled.

While the very noticeable lack of news might suggest otherwise, it has been discovered that development is still ongoing thanks to a recent job posting. Not only that, it seems to suggest that the game is being worked on for the next generation of consoles.

First spotted by GamesRadar, the listing states that developer Dambuster Studios is looking for a new art director. It’s not the only job listing, admittedly, but it does read that whoever gets the role will be ‘leading the art direction on a ground-breaking title for current and future platforms.’

It’s not necessarily a hard confirmation that Dead Island 2 will release for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but what else could it be referring to?

At the very least, it’s likely that the game will initially launch on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with an enhanced re-release intended to come at a later date.

If so, it’s likely that it will be viable for Microsoft’s Smart Delivery service, meaning those who buy it for Xbox One can get the Series X version later for free, similar to what’s happening with Cyberpunk 2077.

This is the most news we’ve heard about the game in years and we still have no real idea of when the game will even release for the current systems.

The numerous delays most likely have something to do with how often the game has changed hands. Dambuster took over from Sumo Digital last year, and Sumo Digital had taken over to replace Yager in 2015.

Then again, given the current coronavirus situation, maybe now’s not the best time to be releasing a game where a chunk of California is quarantined thanks to a zombie virus.
