Dax Shepard and Edward Norton fight over who’s best to play Joe Exotic in Tiger King biopic

Dax Shepard and Edward Norton are fighting over who’s best to play Joe Exotic in Tiger King biopic

Tiger King has basically taken the world by storm following its viral success and celebrities are already eyeing up the potential of starring in a biopic.

The true crime Netflix series has become a fan favourite on the streaming site and follows the story of Joe Exotic – real name Joseph Maldanado-Passage – a zoo-owner who is currently serving a 22-year jail sentence for numerous accounts of animal abuse and the murder-for-hire of activist Carole Baskin.

Viewers are eagerly making their way through the seven episodes and it’s causing all kinds of a stir, with some of Hollywood’s actors wanted in on a biopic.

First to call dibs was Dax Shepard, who’s starred in Employee of the Month, The Judge, Cheaper by the Dozen and When in Rome to name a few movies, who thinks he’s the best man to take on the role of Joe if Tiger King hits the big screen.

He tweeted: ‘If I don’t get cast as Joe Exotic in the eventual biopic, Hollywood is broken.’

But, it looks like he’ll be fighting off stiff competition, as Edward Norton was quick to tell Dax to ‘step aside’.

He tweeted back: ‘Um, step aside, pal. You’re way too young and buff and you know it. You could probably pull off Maldonado still, actually. Wouldn’t that be fun?’

Justin Long, however, seemed all for Dax putting himself forward and replied: ‘

And if @JimGaffigan plays Baghavan “Doc” Antle you can sit next to each other at the oscars!’

Dax then came back with: ‘Great casting. And @channingtatum as my toothless first husband.’

Now, there’s a movie we’d like to see.

Dax then tweeted a photoshopped image of his head on Joe’s and joked: ‘This is a good first step.’

It comes as reports revealed Joe (as in the real Joe Exotic) is ‘loving’ his new found fame the docu-series has brought him while he’s in prison.

Speaking to the LA Times, directors Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin revealed that Joe is well-aware that he’s now gone viral.

‘Joe has called me quite a few times over the last few days and weeks,’ Goode revealed.

‘One, he is absolutely ecstatic about the series and the idea of being famous. He’s absolutely thrilled.’

Chalkin added: ‘You can hardly talk to him without him mentioning the amount of press he’s getting.

‘He’s over the moon. Having kept in pretty close touch with him while he’s been in a horrible county prison, this has raised his spirits.’
