Comedian David Walliams was pulling no punches on Wednesday night, as he relentlessly mocked The One Show host Ronan Keating’s lack of literary knowledge – which led to a swipe at the presenter for having had “work done”.
Appearing on the show to discuss his new book, things took a slightly awkward turn as Ronan quizzed David on his parenting skills.
“What sort of dad are you?” the presenter wondered.
David admitted he enjoys playing with Lego and Playdough with his son Alfred, along with going to the park and dancing to the Bee Gees.
“Can you be my dad, please?” Ronan asked when David was finished speaking, leading to the Little Britain star looking directly into the camera as he frowned at the “odd” query.
“Bit odd, innit? He’s had a lot of work done, that’s why he looks young! He said earlier he didn’t know what an adjective was, so!” David chuckled.
“You weren’t supposed to say that out loud!” Ronan laughed.
David wasn’t finished with his savage mockery of Ronan, as co-host Alex Jones said: “You’re so on the wavelength of these children – that’s why your books work so well, ’cause you’re basically a child!”
David quickly quipped: “Yeah… I think it’s a bit grown-up for Ronan, though, that’s what I’m worried about. Adjective? What’s that?”
And later, as they discussed David’s new Gangsta Granny theme park ride at Alton Towers, he said: “It might be a bit too scary for Ronan, but older children like it!”
Speaking about his new West End production of Billionaire Boy, David advised Ronan to “go with a parent”.
But fans on social media were much more distracted by David’s own ageless transformation, as one observed that he looked “10 years younger”.
“Goodness me, @davidwalliams looks amazing, at least 10 years younger! What’s his secret?” someone asked on Twitter.
Another fan wrote: “@davidwalliams looking super handsome on #TheOneShow!”, as a third penned: “How good does @davidwalliams look on #TheOneShow? Lost loads of weight, I kinda would!”
