David Tennant: ‘It’s odd’ Good Omens star admits son, 17, lectured HIM about birth control

Former Doctor Who star David Tennant, 48, joked it was “odd” that the couple’s teenage son Ty, who doesn’t have children, decided to lecture them about contraception. Spilling all to Graham Norton, 56, on his BBC show, he revealed: “We have number five child on the way. It’s very exciting. There is a big spread of ages, with a 17-year-old at one end,” he added. When he found out about the new baby, he [Ty] was like, ‘You’re having another one?’

“It’s odd when a 17-year-old is giving his parents a lecture on birth control!”

David elaborated on Ty’s words during an interview with James Corden, who also announced the baby news on his show.

James said aloud: “We were just talking backstage, this is blowing my mind.

“You have four children already, your oldest is 17.

“You just told me you and your wife, the lovely Georgia, are expecting your fifth child.”

David replied: “I know! Five is a lot.

“What’s really weird about it is we’re now getting lectures on birth control from our 17-year-old son.

“And that’s definitely meant to be the other way around.

“He’s like ‘Come on, do I need to teach you the basics?’ It’s mental. It’s a lot.”

David and Georia are also parents to Olive, eight, Wilfred, six, and four-year-old daughter Doris.

Back in 2011, David adopted Georgia’s son Ty.

During a chat with Absolute Radio in 2012, he said: “My baby is almost a year old and I adopted my wife’s boy last year as well so I became a father twice in six months – that’s got to be something of a record hasn’t it?”

Elsewhere, David has been focusing on his new role in Good Omens.

The Amazon Prime series follows the unlikely friendship between David’s character Crowley and Aziraphale (played by Michael Sheen) based on Terry Pratchett’s novel.

On bringing the novel to life, David admitted he is nervous about people’s reactions.

He told Graham: “Of course we’re nervous because people have loved the book for 30 years and they have ideas as to what these characters are and we have to fulfill that dream.”

The Graham Norton show continues tonight at 10.35pm on BBC One.
