David James: ‘Not bothered’ Strictly star hits back at ‘harsh’ comments from judges

David James, 49, refused to let the judges’ criticism get him down after performing his Paso Doble on Strictly Come Dancing. The former England goalkeeper hit back at the panel after he received a meagre 10 points for his performance. Speaking on BBC Strictly’s Instagram story in view of their 756,000 followers, David said: “The scores, the judges, not bothered… too much.” The sportsman’s professional dance partner Nadiya Bychkova, 30, seemed to agree, as she explained: “Well done, don’t worry! You loved the dance.

“There were a couple of harsh comments.”

The ballroom and Latin dancer then added some words of encouragement for her partner.

“I think you did such a wonderful job,” she gushed.

David’s response to the judges comes after they seemed unimpressed by his cape wielding moves on tonight’s show.

Bruno Tonioli compared his work with the prop to “shaking a dusty rag doll”.

Moving on to the “shaping”, the judge added: “I’ve seen better shaping in safety demonstrations on aircrafts.

“You really have to work on the artistry of the dance, which comes with listening to the music and getting more of the feel of the character.

“You’ve got a lot of work ahead of you my darling.”

Craig Revel Horwood then described the performance as “limp, lame and lacklustre”.

Most Mabuse added: “I think the dancing is not there yet.

“You need to find something to bring it up like the personality or something to cover it up until the dancing comes in.

“I just think we need more of you to throw yourself into it.”

David seemed disappointed by the reaction from the panel following his dance.

The Strictly hopeful admitted to host Claudia Winkleman that he “fell in love” with the Paso Doble during training.

He jokingly told the presenter: “I fell in love with it, yeah!

“I suppose love hurts doesn’t it?”

Strictly Come Dancing – The Results Show airs tomorrow at 7.15pm on BBC One.
