David Haye has talked up a stunning unification fight between British heavyweight champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua and says Fury would have ‘the edge’.

Fury, 31, produced a brilliant performance to beat the previously undefeated American fighter Deontay Wilder in their WBC showdown in Las Vegas.

The Brit dominated throughout the much-anticipated rematch and Wilder’s corner threw in the towel in the seventh round after he had been taken to the floor twice.

Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn has teased at a unification fight between Fury and Joshua, who reclaimed his belts from Andy Ruiz Jr. in December, and Haye believes Fury would be the slight favourite.

‘On current form you’d have to say Fury. He’s never lost a fight for starters,’ former world champion Haye said when asked which British fighter would emerge triumphant.

‘He’s beaten by far the best opponent in Wilder who was the WCB champion. I believe you have to go with the guy who is unbeaten.

‘That’s why I believe Anthony Joshua will want this fight though – it’s the chance to get that official No. 1 title.

‘He’s officially No. 1 because he has the belts, that’s great but you have to have that lineal. It’s so nice that it’s two Brits because it makes it easier to happen.

‘AJ is significantly more well-rounded than Wilder, he can box which he proved last time out. He can punch and mix it up.

‘It’s a 50/50 fight – maybe you slightly give the edge to Fury.’

Wilder is expected to activate a clause in his contract to fight Fury for a third time and admitted he was disappointed by his team’s decision to stop the fight.

He said: ‘The best man won on the night. My coach threw in the towel but I’m ready to go out on my shield.

‘I had a lot of things going on coming into this fight but it is what it is.

‘I just wish my corner would have let me go out on my shield, I’m a warrior. But [Fury] did what he did and there’s no excuses.’
