David de Gea's telling reaction to controversial Everton goal against Man Utd

Man Utd goalkeeper David de Gea has offered a telling reaction to Everton’s controversial goal on Sunday in his latest post on Twitter .

The Spanish stopper was between the sticks for his side’s Premier League clash with the Toffees at Old Trafford on Sunday.

United found themselves a goal behind at the break thanks to an own goal from Red Devils defender Victor Lindelof in the 36th minute.

It took a goal from young substitute Mason Greenwood to earn United a share of the points.

But there was controversy in the lead up to Everton’s goal which annoyed several United stars, including de Gea, after it appeared that he was fouled.

De Gea went to punch away Leighton Baines’ corner, but was hit in the face by the flailing arm of Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin – who had competed for the ball along with teammate Yerry Mina.

As a result, de Gea failed to make contact with the ball, as it sailed over their heads before bouncing off Lindelof and rolling into the unguarded net.

The incident was reviewed by VAR in the immediate aftermath, but was declared a goal despite Calvert-Lewin’s impediment.

Taking to Twitter after the match, de Gea posted an image of Calvert Lewin’s arm striking him in the face, accompanied with the eyes emoji – as if to suggest he did not agree with VAR’s decision.

Fortunately for de Gea and United, Greenwood was able to come off the bench to drill home a left-footed shot into the bottom corner with just under quarter of an hour remaining.

The match will perhaps be best-remembered for another substitute however, after Everton interim boss Duncan Ferguson hauled off youngster Moise Kean just 18 minutes after coming on.

Kean, 19, had struggled since being introduced, but trudged straight down the tunnel with his head bowed after passing Ferguson on the touchline, who chose to ignore the forward.

Ferguson then disbelievingly stressed the bizarre decision was purely tactical in a post-match interview.

“It wasn’t because of Moise Kean’s performance,” said the Scot. “I just needed to make a substitution to kill a bit of time. That’s all it was.

“Because I’ve got so many strikers on the bench I just decided to make that change.

“It was nothing personal against Moise Kean really.”
