David Bowers to direct live-action/CG hybrid Rugrats movie

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new Rugrats movie, a live-action/CG hybrid feature from Paramount, has tapped director David Bowers to bring Tommy, Chuckie and the gang to the big screen. This will be the first Rugrats film to hit theaters since 2003’s animated Rugrats Go Wild.

Bowers previous credits include three of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid sequels plus Flushed Away and Astro Boy.

The new film will see the return of original series creators Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain, who serve as executive producers. As for the live-action movie, Family Guy and Futurama scribe David A. Goodman is set to pen the script. It will debut in theaters on November 13, 2020.

Rugrats first premiered on Nickelodeon in 1991 and would go on to run for nine seasons and 172 episodes. The series focused on the troupe of babies including Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, twins Phil and Lil, and Tommy’s cousin Angelica. The series had three theatrically released movies, the first of which grossed over $100 million at the domestic box office back in 1998.
