David Attenborough has a new nature series coming to BBC and it looks mega

Just days after David Attenborough confirmed a feature-length documentary based on his phenomenal career, he’s now announced a brand new nature series coming to BBC in 2021.

The Green Planet is a new five-part series focusing on the lives of plants and their essential role on our planet. Using ultra high-speed and time-lapse thermal cameras, Sir David Attenborough will travel across Northern Europe, Croatia, Costa Rica and America, from deserts to mountains, to offer a fresh perspective on the world of plants. As Executive Producer Mike Gunton said: “This is Planet Earth for plants!”

Did you know seeds can outlive civilisations? Or that trees take care of each other? Were you aware plants are as aggressive and competitive as animals? And that they can count? These are some of the mind-blowing facts Attenborough will be uncovering in The Green Planet.

While the series will predominantly focus on plants, it will also feature box-office animals due to their dependence on plants.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to explore a neglected yet truly remarkable part of the natural world,” stated the broadcaster and naturalist. “Once again, the innovative approach of the BBC NHU and groundbreaking technology will reveal new and surprising wonders to the BBC One audience.”

Mike Gunton, Executive Producer, says: “This series will take viewers into a world beyond their imagination – see things no eye has ever seen. The world of plants is a mind-blowing parallel universe; one that we can now bring to life using a whole range of exciting new camera technology.

The news of Attenborough’s new series comes shortly after Attenborough confirmed a feature documentary that will explore the defining moments of his career and the devastating impact of humanity on the planet. Scheduled for release in April, this will join Attenborough’s impressive roster of nature programmes.

We don’t know what we did to deserve this heroic man but we’re certainly not complaining. Roll on 2020!
