Dave Bautista from Guardians Of The Galaxy to be a playable character in Gears 5

Dave Bautista gets his ‘dream role’ at last

Drax himself is to get his own character in the new Gears Of War game, as a crossover with WWE’s Clash of Champions.

WWE superstar, and surprisingly good actor, Dave Bautista will be a playable character in the upcoming Gears 5, although only from 15 September.

Bautista is probably known best nowadays for his role as Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but he also appeared in James Bond film Spectre and a had a good turn in Blade Runner 2049.

But he’s also long been connected with a proposed Gears Of War movie, where he was up for the role of Marcus Fenix, but while that’s never worked out at least he’ll be in the new game.

Bautista has recorded over 7,000 lines of dialogue for the game, even though he only appears in the multiplayer modes.

He’ll be wearing Marcus Fenix’s armour and reading his lines, which will likely be the closest he ever gets to portraying the character in live action.

The slight delay in his appearance is so it syncs up with WWE’s Clash of Champions event but there’ll also be an in-game countdown to his insertion.

Gears 5 is due to be released on 10 September for Xbox One and PC (or 6 September for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members) but you can download Bautista for free at any time from 15 September to 28 October.

The review embargo for Gears 5 is this afternoon, so you can read about we thought of the game then.
