Danny Drinkwater joins Extinction Rebellion march after having Range Rover sidelined

Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has been pictured on an Extinction Rebellion after his fuel-guzzling Range Rover was sidelined.

Drinkwater, who is on loan at Burnley but is currently injured, took a selfie in front of campaigners and added a salute emoji.

The picture emerged after nearly two weeks of Extinction Rebellion protests aimed at bringing London to a standstill to highlight climate change issues.

It appears Drinkwater has become an eco warrior after he was earlier this year banned from driving his £125,000 Range Rover.

He is the latest star to be pictured supporting the environmental protest group, following in the footsteps of actor Benedict Cumberbatch, Olivia Colman and Stephen Fry.

Back in May, Drinkwater was banned from driving for 20 months and ordered to complete community service over a drink-driving crash in the Range Rover which left two women with minor injuries.

Last month, Burnley boss Sean Dyche told Danny Drinkwater he would be given a second chance at the club after he was attacked outside a Manchester nightclub to leave him with an ankle injury.

England midfielder Drinkwater was a Premier League title winner with Leicester City in 2015/2016.

He joined Chelsea in 2017 but his career stalled and he joined Burnley on loan this summer.

His recent injury has left him plenty of time to join the Extinction Rebellion protests.

On Friday, an Extinction Rebellion protester dressed as Boris Johnson climbed the scaffolding surrounding Big Ben.

The man, identified by the movement as Ben Atkinson, wore a wig and green trousers as he climbed up the outside of the iconic tower – often referred to by the name of its large bell, Big Ben.

He unfurled a banner which read “no pride on a dear planet” in LGBT rainbow and waved at the crowds below.
