Danny DeVito wants to make ‘Matilda 2’ with Matilda’s child

Danny DeVito has stated his desire to make a Matilda sequel.

He also hinted that Matilda 2 would work best with a plot that focuses on the child of the now grown-up title star.

Speaking to ComicBook, DeVito, who plays Harry Wormwood in the 1996 classic, stated that he’s thought about a second film in the past, saying: “I always wanted to do Matilda 2, but when the kid was still a kid.”

He continued: “But that was like 20 years ago, 25 years ago. Maybe Matilda has a kid and we can do something that, I don’t know.”

Last year, it was revealed that Netflix are set to adapt Matilda among a host of other Roald Dahl stories.

The streaming service is also set to reboot the likes of The BFGCharlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Twits.

Netflix said the programmes would “remain faithful to the quintessential spirit and tone of Dahl,” and the partnership was approved by the late author’s estate.

Speaking about the news, Felicity Dahl, the writer’s widow, said it was “an incredibly exciting new chapter for the Roald Dahl Story Company. Roald would, I know, be thrilled.”

Danny DeVito recently responded to Colin Farrell being cast as his old character The Penguin in the upcoming Batman film.

The actor will appear in the upcoming Jumanji 2, out on December 20.
