Fans of Daniel Radcliffe may be slightly disappointed as his theatre production Endgame has been cancelled due to coronavirus.

The Old Vic has scrapped all performances of the play, which started its run earlier this year.

The Harry Potter actor – who starred alongside Alan Cummings in the Samuel Beckett revival – was meant to take on the role until 28 March.

In an email to ticket holders, the theater said: ‘Given the new travel and other restrictions in place, it is nevertheless becoming increasingly impractical to sustain business as usual at our theater.

‘We are very sympathetic to people’s personal circumstances, as we are to the audiences who are still excited to visit the theater and see our productions.’

They continued: ‘We are also extremely aware of our employees’ financial dependence on work being presented and tickets being purchased.

‘So it is with great sadness that we have had to decide to suspend the presentation of Endgame in a double bill with Rough for Theatre II for the next two weeks, which is the remainder of its run.’

The theater later urged customers to donate ticket sales to a good cause – themselves.

‘The Old Vic operates in an unusual way for a non-commercial theatre in that it has no Arts Council support,’ they added.

‘Instead it is completely dependent on philanthropic donations, sponsorship and ticket sales. We now need your help more than ever.’

They have a fair point!

The news comes almost a week after the British star, 30, found himself at the receiving end of a Covid-19 hoax after a fake tweet claimed he had contracted the virus.

A fake Twitter account with the handle @BBCNewsTonight and the name BBC Breaking News began speculation by sharing a tweet, which read: ‘BREAKING: Daniel Radcliffe tests positive for coronavirus. The actor is said to be the first famous person to be publicly confirmed.’

Dan’s reps denied the tweet, with the actor later joking he was targeted because of his pale complexion.

The Woman In Black star explained: ‘I walked into the hair and make-up room on a play yesterday, and the make-up artist was like, “My niece has just texted me and told me you’ve got corona.”

‘I think it was on a fake BBC account, but then enough people saw it… That is the Internet.’

He jokingly added: ‘I think it’s just because I look ill all the time, so you can believably say it about me. ‘Cause I’m very pale. But, you know, flattered they chose me.’

We’re glad you’ve got the all clear, Dan.
