Daniel Levy admits Mauricio Pochettino has players he doesn't want at Tottenham

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has appeared to suggest manager Mauricio Pochettino is currently having to work with a squad that is made up of a number of players that he does not want at the club.

Spurs are on the verge of a crisis after losing four of their last five games, including a humiliating defeat to Colchester in the Carabao Cup as well as 7-2 and 3-0 thrashings by Bayern Munich and Brighton respectively.

A number of players are thought to want to move on from the north London club, with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld all out of contract at the end of the season.

Speaking at a meeting with the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust, Levy seemed to claim there were certain players who he was unable to get out of the door during the summer transfer window.

In minutes of the meeting it read: “DL (Levy) said Tottenham had been one of the biggest spenders among Premier League clubs in the recent transfer window. It had also not generated all the sales the club hoped for.

“DL reiterated just how difficult it is to get a transfer over the line.

“In 90 per cent of instances either a buyer could not be found for a player or the player did not wish to join the club that had expressed an interest in buying them.”

Levy also appeared to suggest there is a strong chance some players could leave for free at the end of the season.

The minutes added: “DL said it wasn’t possible to make anyone sign a contract if they didn’t want to.

“Some players have been at Spurs for a long time and want to pursue opportunities elsewhere.”

Tottenham will look to get back to winning ways when they face bottom club Watford on Saturday.
