Daniel Abt will never drive for Audi in Formula E again after imposter scandal

Audi have axed Daniel Abt from their Formula E team following his eSports imposter scandal.

Abt was fined £9,000 after getting a ringer to drive for him during Formula E’s charity eSports race at the weekend.

But the fine was only the start of Abt’s problems and Audi have confirmed that Abt has been suspended.

Mirror Sport understand that he will never drive for the team again.

Audi bosses have been left furious by his antics and the company’s top brass have decided to pull the plug on his six-year stint with the team.

Abt, 27, is a two-time Formula E race winner but his recent performances and attitude has not gone down well with team chiefs.

Audi have a wealth of drivers in the German DTM series who they can call upon to replace Abt for the rest of the 2020 season, when action resumes later this year.

All 22 of Formula E’s drivers are competing in the nine-week Race at Home Challenge to raise money for UNICEF.

But Saturday’s round five was shrouded in controversy as German star Abt turned around his previous shoddy form in virtual racing to finish on the podium – but raced and completed the post-race press conference with his webcam switched off.

Last night, Abt was found guilty and given an unprecedented fine, which he will donate to charity.
