Dani Ceballos questioned after 'strange' comments he has made about Arsenal team-mate

Dani Ceballos has been questioned by Joleon Lescott after comparing Arsenal team-mate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ceballos joined Arsenal on a season-long loan from Real Madrid in the summer.

Earlier this week he claimed in an interview that Aubameyang is similar to his former Real team-mate Ronaldo.

But he also said Alexandre Lacazette was the best player at Arsenal.

“We’ve got a very good, compact side and the three up front really make the difference,” Ceballos told the Guardian.

“You can compare [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang to Cristiano [Ronaldo] when he was at Madrid in the sense that he plays close to the goal he lives for scoring.

“He’s very important for us, fundamental. [Nicolas] Pepe is very direct.

“And [Alexandre] Lacazette, for me, is the best player: he understands the game perfectly and, if he’s 100 per cent, he’s going to give us so much.”

However, Lescott could not understand how someone who is like Ronaldo is not the best player at a club.

“It’s strange, the fact that he said Lacazette is the main man but compares Aubameyang to Ronaldo,” Lescott said on Sky Sports’ The Debate programme.

“It’s strange because we all know Cristiano Ronaldo is the main man in every team he has ever played in, so you can’t have one and not be the other.

“But, in terms of talent, massive fan. Something I never had was pace and I love to see him run at defenders.

“It doesn’t matter what kind of strengths you’ve got as a defender, if someone’s as quick as you then yeah, you’re worried.”

Arsenal are back in action this Sunday when they visit Watford in the Premier League (4.30pm).

The Gunners have picked up seven points from their opening four games of the campaign, sitting fifth in the table.
