Dani Ceballos asked Real Madrid not to include an option-to-buy clause in his loan deal to Arsenal, according to Spanish reports.

Arsenal confirmed the signing of the midfielder this week, but Ceballos will return to Real at the end of the 2019/20 season.

The 22-year-old is highly rated in Spain and appears determined to fight for his place at Real next year.

Spanish outlet AS claim it was at the player’s request that Arsenal not be given the chance to sign him at the end of his deal.

Clubs often insert obligation-to-buy or option-to-buy clauses in loan deals. While Ceballos is currently worth around £45million, his market value could rise even higher if he impresses at the Emirates.

Unai Emery played a key role in convincing Ceballos to join Arsenal, with Tottenham also vying to sign the Spaniard.

‘I knew I had the confidence of the coach, which was very important for me from the start,’ Ceballos explained.

‘I was aware of the responsibility that wearing this shirt entails and it was a tremendously proud moment when I decided to join Arsenal.

‘The coach was the turning point in terms of me joining this massive club. He’s a Spanish coach and he knows me from my time at other clubs.

‘I’m really happy to be able to help Arsenal achieve our objectives.’
