Dancing On Ice’s Torvill and Dean say judges won’t offend stars again after Gemma Collins was ‘bullied’ last year

DANCING On Ice judges Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean have promised the show won’t offend its stars after Gemma Collins was ‘bullied’.

Axed judge Jason Gardiner was sensationally replaced with John Barrowman on the ITV series after he said that Gemma looked like a “refrigerator on the ice” last year.

And speaking ahead of the Towie star’s return in the Dancing On Ice Christmas Special, head judges Torvill and Dean insisted the panel  won’t jeopardise the show’s reputation again.

Jane told The Sun Online: “I don’t think I have ever called anyone fat but I wouldn’t do that on TV.

“I don’t think we try to be nice, I think we just have always (been).”

But Christopher admitted: “Everybody measures what you say, and that is etiquette. PC is very PC nowadays. So it is more difficult.”

Torvill and Dean also insisted John Barrowman won’t be the new Mr Nasty after replacing Jason.

The dancing duo reckon straight-talking John – who competed on the show in 2006 – won’t overstep the mark.

Christopher said: “John is sort of veracious, funny, very mischievous. But at the same time he was in the first series, so he has been a competitor on the show.

“He is a showman, he brings all those qualities to judging … but he will be strict.”

Their comments come after Strictly judge Bruno Tonioli revealed he wasn’t allowed to say “fat” on the BBC1 show for fear of upsetting snowflakes.

The Italian, 64, was offering comedian Chris Ramsey hope he could win the dance-off against actor Karim Zeroual by saying: “It’s not over until the fat lady sings”.

But he hastily asked for a reshoot, admitting: “Oh, I can’t say that any more. You can’t say ‘fat’ on TV.”

A show insider said: “Bruno is just conscious about offending people.

“It’s the last thing he’d want to do so it’s better just to be safe.

“The BBC are incredibly sensitive right now. Obviously it’s filtering down to its stars.
