Dancing on Ice: John Barrowman 'to replace Jason Gardiner in shake-up'

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star John Barrowman is set to take a starring role on Dancing On Ice.

The performer has reportedly joining the Dancing of Ice judging panel when the show returns next year.

He will be replacing controversial Jason Gardiner who was reportedly dropped after clashing with reality star contestant Gemma Collins.

Last series, the pair repeatedly locked horns and Gemma hit out at the ITV judge after his unpleasant feedback.

A Dancing On Ice source has revealed show bosses are “delighted” John will be joining the panel.

“Producers are delighted to have got John,” the source told The Sun.

“He’s a good fit for the show as he knows how it works and has done judging roles before.”

They continued: “They also feel he’s a bit more wholesome than Jason, who puts a lot of noises out of joint with some of his comments.”

“They think John will be a big success.”

Jason shockingly revealed Dancing On Ice bosses tried to sack him after last year’s series but he quit first.

In a video posted to his Instagram account, Jason confirmed he was leaving the show and thanked his fans for all of their support.

He said: “After all these years I feel it’s time for me to say goodbye to my judging role and return to things I have been putting on hold and have been on the back burner for a while.

“To all of my DOI fans I really thank you for your support and encouragement over the years, I know we’ve gone through some controversies and I’m glad you got my unique judging style and honestly.”

Conflicting reports prior to Jason posting the video stated he’d been dropped from the show instead.

Referencing the rumours he added: “I know there has been a lot of speculation about me and the upcoming series of Dancing On Ice. I wanted to set the record straight, I’ve been an original judge since 2006.

“I’ve done every series except one, when I was replaced by my good friend and dance sister Louis Spence in 2012.

“The show had been off air for four years and when it was revived I was the only original judge to return.”

When the show returns in January with a host of eager celebrities, John will begin his new role.

John is no stranger to the ice and finished in seventh place on the show after competition in the first series in 2006.

Despite Harry Redknapp taking the I’m A Celeb crown last year, John proved to a hit with the public and finished third.
