Dancing On Ice in chaos as Ben Hanlin slashes arm open in gruesome injury

Dancing On Ice contestant Ben Hanlin’s arm was slashed with the blade of his skating partner’s skate during a dangerous rehearsal session.

Ben has been left wearing a bandage after Carlotta Edward’s skate blade dragged through his arm, and cut it open.

The magician, 33, is still hoping to perform in the semi-finals this week, but his injury could throw his place into question ahead of the performance.

Ben told The Sun: “We decided it’s the semi-finals we decided to pull out the stops to do a Torvill and Dean type lift.

“So the idea was I grab her leg and her hand, she essentially jumps at me and spins her leg through the gap and then lands.”

He added: “But if we get it wrong she hits my body, well she hits my arm with her blade.

“And that is exactly what happened. She ended up jumping into my arm, and her blade dragged all the way down my arm and just cut my arm open.”

Ben didn’t need stitches but needs to wear a bandage to stop infection – and he is still hoping to perform the dangerous lift on Sunday.

The contestant has injured himself before on the show, getting severely bruised ribs after crashing into the ice.

Ben admitted he was finding it hard to train because of the pain, telling The Sun at the time: “I was winded, I tried to carry on, I’ve been in agony ever since.”

He continued: “When I got on set today, the physio looked at it, I’ve got bruised and swollen ribs and there’s no cure for it other than strapping it, and I have to train through the pain.

“The show must go on!”

Dancing On Ice continues on Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
