Dancing On Ice has been rocked by allegations of a marriage collapse as the current series of the winter sport reality contest reaches it’s climax.
Married skating professional couple Alexander Demetriou and wife-of-four years Carlotta Edwards are said to be close to announcing they have called time on their marriage after being together for 11 years.
The 29-year-old British skater married 29-year-old Canadian skater Carlotta in 2016 – but reports on Sunday suggested the marriage has ended after Alexander was paired with Love Island star Maura Higgins on the 2020 series of Dancing On Ice.
News of the apparent split comes just days after 29-year-old Maura announced she had split from 24-year-old Love Island star Curtis Pritchard amid allegations of cheating.
“Alex’s marriage to Carlotta is all but over, after 11 years together. They are trying to put on a united front for now, but the writing is on the wall,” a source close to the couple to The Sun on Sunday.
“They haven’t been happy together in months, and Alex has been confiding in Maura about their personal problems, which hasn’t helped,” the source went on.
“He is besotted with her, and feels she is a much better fit for him than Carlotta, who is livid she is being pushed to one side,” the source claimed.
Rumours have also suggested the couple have been strained after Alex was paired with Pussycat Dolls star Melody Thornton in the 2019 competition.
Last week, Maura shocked fans when she revealed her relationship with Curtis had come to an end.
Taking to Instagram last Monday, the reality beauty wrote: “Curtis and I have made the decision to separate.”
She added: “We enjoyed a great experience from our time in the villa and want to thank everyone for supporting our relationship.
Curtis broke his silence following news of the split two days later when he shared videos of himself rehearsing for a dance tour.
Dancing On Ice’s live final airs on ITV tonight at 6pm.
