Dan Walker: ‘Pathetic’ Fans respond to BBC breakfast presenter's desperate plea


The BBC star tweeted during England’s Cricket World Cup match against Australia imploring for someone to help the hosts win the game. After already losing two games, England faced Australia needing to win to stay well ahead of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the race for a semi-final spot. Unfortunately, England collapsed and lost the game to their bitter rivals in what was a crushing loss for the pre-tournament favourites.

Following that loss, England now sit only one point ahead of Bangladesh but will play two difficult games against New Zealand and India.

Tweeting to during the game, Dan said: “Down to Stokes & Buttler here.

“Lords is incredibly quiet.

“Heroics required.”

Replying to Dan, multiple England fans were quick to criticise the host nation following their bitter loss.

Barry Younge said: “We are rubbish Dan, overrated.”

Another user said: “Dan England are pathetic once the pressure is on.

“Where’s the fight once again in a very soft England team again!”

Dan’s tweet came as BBC Breakfast viewers expressed their disappointment over Dan’s absence from the show.

Dan usually presents the show with co-host, Louise Minchin but was not present on Monday with his co-host.

One user wrote: “Where’s Dan?”

Another tweeted the presenter: “When will you return?

“I miss the dynamic between you and Louise.”

A third wrote: “It’s Monday, you’re supposed to be doing the day job.

“Gallivanting is for Thursday onwards.”

Responding to the comments, Dan confirmed he was actually in Scotland on Monday but will be returning to the show on Wednesday.

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One at 6am.
