Dan Walker: 'Heartbreaking' BBC Breakfast star shares touching Father’s Day tribute

The BBC favourite said “thank you” to fellow TV presenter Simon Thomas for sending him a copy of his new book, Love, Interrupted, which Dan Walker described as a “heartbreaking but amazing book”. Taking to Twitter to share his appreciation Dan wrote: “Big ‘thank you’ to @SimonThomasSky & his son Ethan for sending me this for #FathersDay.

“Simon asked me to write the foreword for this incredible tome and it really is a heartbreaking but amazing book #LoveInterrupted.”

The BBC Breakfast stalwart also revealed an unfortunate health problem on his Twitter account on Father’s Day.

Dan shared the nasty news with his 568 thousand followers on the social media platform on Sunday.

The popular BBC presenter quipped he might “have to borrow Madonna’s eye patch for BBC Breakfast” after unveiling the minor ailment.

He also accompanied the short tweet with an image of the health issue.

Tweeting, Dan said: Woke up this morning with this beauty.”

He followed those words with a small ‘eye’ emoji symbol.

He continued: “Spending #FathersDay morning in a walk-in centre.

“Might have to borrow Madonna’s eye-patch for #BBCBreakfast tomorrow.”

Dan accompanied the jovial message with the tongue-in-cheek hashtag: “#RedEyeOfDoom.”

It was not immediately obvious what the health problem was but it appeared to be a mild infection of the eyelid – nothing too concerning.

Eagle-eyed Twitter users and well-wishers were quick to offer their own diagnoses.

One said: “Blepharitis, infection or allergy in the lash follicles.

“I now use blephasol lotion every day to prevent it happening again.

“You can get it on prescription or buy from chemists.”

Another wrote: “Looks like Blepharitis.

“Had it myself a few weeks ago. A few days antibiotics and eye drops/cream should sort you.”

Someone else offered: “Little squirt of baby shampoo (no tears formula) with v warm water in bottom of mug. Mix. Use cotton bud and wipe eye lid along the lashes and just a little bit under lid. 2 or 3 times today and you’ll be sorted by tomorrow.”

Meanwhile another fan was quick to offer a message of support, penning: “Hope you’re on tomorrow morning make our week you and Louise.”

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One at 6am.
