Dan Walker: BBC Breakfast star speaks out on tragic death in emotional admission ‘Gutted’

Dan Walker, 42, revealed he was “gutted” after learning that Lewis the koala had died following the injuries he sustained from the bushfires in Australia recently. The BBC Breakfast presenter took the opportunity to share an emotional tribute to the deceased koala.

In view of his 593,000 followers, Dan wrote: “I know there is a lot going on in the world but I’m gutted by the news that Lewis the koala – who was rescued from the Australian bush fires – has sadly died from the injuries he sustained.”

The small-screen star accompanied the post with a snap of a recovering Lewis who was covered in bandages following his horrific burns.

Fans flocked to comment on the post, with many praising the people who rescued Lewis during the bushfire.

One person said: “Yes very sad. That footage of him being rescued and crying in pain was heartbreaking.”

Another person commented: “So sad…The couple who rescued him did a remarkable job trying to save him, as did the vets I’m sure. Very sad…”

While a third person added: “This is the saddest thing. I still find it difficult to stop thinking about his cries when he was rescued – pure desperation. What an absolute shame.”

Dan’s tribute comes after Lewis went viral last week, when a woman named Toni Doherty took the shirt off her back to save him from a raging bushfire in Australia.

In the clip, she could be seen pouring water over the koala before bringing him to a sanctuary.

The hashtag #RIPLewis began trending on Twitter with many people offering their condolences to the koala.

Meanwhile, Dan recently hit back at a social media user after they wrote a snarky reply to his request to get his followers registered to vote for the upcoming election.

In a now deleted tweet, a user poked fun at Dan’s words and said they were surprised he wasn’t encouraging his followers to vote for the Conservative Party.

The TV personality shared a video from BBC Breakfast that detail how the British public can register to vote online.
