Three-year-old Alfie Hull rides around town in style.

Thanks to his dad Dan, 45, having some spare time during lockdown, Alfie now has a fully working truck, which resembles a classic Eddie Stobart vehicle.

Dan created the vehicle from an old mobility scooter and it features an AH logo, which features for Alfie Hull, and comes complete with a trailer on the back made out of old recycled household objects.

The truck, which measures 21 ft (six metres) long and weighs around 200kg, cost £200 to make but was mainly put together with recycled materials.

The dad, of Countesthorpe, Leics., works as a courier but is also a qualified electrician.

He said: ‘I’ve always been into building stuff and I had my heart set on building something my son could drive. He became interested in lorries so naturally, I thought I would go out and buy a mobility scooter and set about the project.

‘The truck is fully radio controlled and goes at about 7mph. Alfie tends to sit inside and I sit on the trailer, which I built during lockdown, and I have full control over it as it’s too heavy and big for Alfie to drive just yet.

‘He loves it, as soon as I get it out, he wants to drive it everywhere. It stops traffic, people ask about it all the time and I even had one man say he came here especially to have a look at it.’

Dan learned how to build things thanks to his dad and he hopes to pass the hobby onto Alfie too.

He said: ‘I’m currently building a monster truck which is going to be big enough for us both to get in using a motorbike engine and old quad bike.’

Dan’s wife, Marian, 45, fully supports her husband’s hobby and has even let him turn their kitchen into a workshop.

Dan said: ‘She’s been really supportive of the whole project. When I was originally building it, I didn’t have a decent workshop so I built it in the kitchen.

‘Now, we tend to store the truck in the garage or in my lock up unit.’

And if you want to copy his project, he has even created a step-by-step how-to guide.
