A DAD was left red-faced after discovering that the ‘cool toy’ that his son took to school was in fact a menstrual cup.
Taking to Reddit, user sothishappened2, shared his embarrassing incident on the thread Today I F***ed Up.

Setting the scene he wrote: “My wife is working out of town for a couple weeks.
“Sometime over the weekend I noticed my son playing with this little silicone cup that kinda looked like a tulip.
“I asked him what it went to and what it did and he proceeded to show me it’s versatility- over the next few days it helped the Paw Patrol save the town, it was a treasure chest holding tiny pebbles guarded by pirates, a force field protecting a space ship.
“It came with us to the park, grocery shopping, and even out to dinner one night. I loved that it had its own little satchel and assumed it just went to a play set.”

He continued: “Fast forward to this morning and as we’re getting ready for school Alexa reminds us that it’s show and tell today at school.
“So my son grabs his little silicone cup and off to school he goes. I pick him up after school and his teacher asks to speak with me.
“My son looks happy so I figure he’s not in trouble, or if he is in trouble he did something cheeky that he’s proud of.”
The dad proceeded to explain the VERY awkward situation he had with his son’s teacher upon collecting him.
WHAT IS A MENSTRUAL CUP?
Menstrual cups collect blood flow, rather than absorbing it as with pads and tampons, and are made from medical grade silicone, rubber, latex or elastomer.
Like tampons, they are inserted into the vagina, before being emptied every 4-12 hours.
There are currently two types – a vaginal cup which is generally bell-shaped, and a cervical cup.
The findings, published in the Lancet Public Health journal, indicate menstrual cups result in similar or lower leakage than disposable sanitary pads or tampons.
Researchers also found that they could be more cost-effective in the long run.
A cups costs around £15 to £25, which is more than a box of tampons, but it can be reused every month and lasts up to 10 years.
The team also suggest that it might reduce plastic waste, as over a decade a cup is estimated to create 0.4 per cent of the waste generated by single-use pads or 6 per cent of that produced by using tampons.
Describing his son’s show and tell as “interesting” she quickly realises that the dad is unaware of what his son’s “toy” is, and is forced to explain that it’s a menstrual cup, and what it is used for.
Finishing his story he wrote: “My wife laughed hysterically when we told her. My son is none the wiser and is having a tea party with the cup right now.”
Fellow Redditors were left in stitches over the faux pas, with the story receiving hundreds of comments.
One wrote: “I’ve just about died laughing, cuz your kids teacher had to give you some education.”
Another commented: “This is a priceless interaction. Thank you for sharing.”
While a third joked: “No harm done since it sounds like you both had a bloody good time.”
