Cyber bullying is widespread and 70 per cent want more to be done about it

Most teens are clean living, happy and enjoy school – but fear the pressures of social media.

Seven out of 10 told a poll online bullying has become common and more needs to be done to combat it.

Contributors to the Mirror’s Next Generation project said the findings bear out their own experience.

Lucas Bishop, 17, from Kent, said: “It’s a huge problem that always seems to get worse. A lot more could be done by tech companies,”

Cameron Bradley, 17, also from Kent, added: “The poll under estimates the extent. It is more like nine out of ten where we live.”

In the Deltapoll survey of more than 1,000 British 13 to 18-year-olds, 47% want classes on coping with social media.

However most said they are either “quite happy” (56%) or “very happy” (19%) with only 17% “not very happy” and 6% “not happy at all.”

Some 71% are quite satisfied or very satisfied with their education.

Despite general optimism, nearly one in three suffered stress in the last year and 17% had poor mental health.

Some 565 wanted to learn more about safety and self-defence.

Tackling climate change is regarded as top issue by 23%, 14% name Brexit . Other most important issues are crime (14%), the NHS (10 %) education (9%) and job prospects (9%.)

Drink and drugs were snubbed. Over the past 12 months only one in 10 got drunk, 2% took illegal drugs and 7% smoked or vaped.

The poll estimates 14% would vote Tory in a general election, with 45% backing Labour , 10% the Green Party, 7% the Brexit Party and 6% Lib Dem.

Most want to stay in the EU with the poll estimating 59% would vote remain in a second referendum, 26% leave and 15% undecided.

Deltapoll quizzed 1,006 teens online between May 3 and 13. Data was weighted to represent the population for the age group as a whole.
