Cut costs by swapping expensive big-brand goodies for supermarket own-brands – plus win £50k on the Sun Savers Raffle

WE all likey look-a-likeys – especially when it means we can save cash.

Big-brand goodies can be an expensive treat, but supermarket own-brands not only look uncannily like the real thing — they taste like them too and at a fraction of the cost.

Here are top picks which prove imitation is the sincerest form of flattery . . .
TAKE THE BICCIE: Tesco has a great basic range full of cupboard favourites. Ms Molly’s is the store’s answer to stocking your biscuit stores for less and If you love lunchbox classic Tunnock’s Caramel Wafers, £1.55 for eight, try Ms Molly’s Chewy Caramel Wafer Biscuits, 85p for eight — you’ll be impressed and not just by the price.
SAVING: 70p

ICE TRY: Who doesn’t love a Magnum ice cream? The chocolatey treat is one of my faves, but I am a huge fan at cutting the cost of indulging by heading to Aldi. Its similar Chocsticks lollies cost just £1.59 for a box of three (53p each), compared to £3.20 for four Magnums (80p each) at Tesco.

SAVING: 27p per lolly

JAFFA FAKE: McVitie never trademarked the name “Jaffa Cakes”? So, if you head to Lidl, you’ll see similar tangy treats with the same name on the shelf.  For just 89p you can get 24 Sondey Jaffa Cakes at Lidl, compared to £1.60 for 20 McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes at Waitrose.

SAVING: 71p, plus six extra Jaffa cakes
PEAKY BLINDER: Toblerone might be tasty, but its price point is rather high. Thankfully, Poundland has fantastic Twin Peaks copycat chocolate 180g bars up for grabs for just £1. In comparison a 100g Toblerone is £1.45 — so you bag a bar almost double the size, for less.  Now, that’s summit to get excited about.
SAVING: 45p, with the big bonus of an extra 80g of chocolate
