Øland discussed the choice to join the association on a full-time basis: “I am delighted to take on the role as CEO of CSPPA on a full-time basis. We have started something really special in the CSPPA, and I am excited about what the future holds for CSPPA, the professional players and the scene in general. I strongly believe that the CSPPA can do great things for the players and for the industry in the coming time.”

He has left his position as Director of the Danish Football Players’ Association to take on the role, a position in which he undertook on a voluntary part-time basis for the past year.

Seven players were appointed to the CSPPA board in 2018 and they will continue to serve, though Astralis’ Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth and Team Liquid’s Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski will serve as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the board, respectively.

This move comes shortly after the CSPPA signed an agreement with ESL and DreamHack to mutually work on the governance of ESL Pro Tour, having a say in business revenues, player rights, and obligations while at events.

Esports Insider says: Player associations are a good way for players from around the world competing in different countries frequently to try to ensure player needs and rights are secured through an official body. With a permanent CEO in place and players given responsibilities, this should incentivise others to join and support the association going forward.
