Crystal Palace rejected an offer worth a potential £50m from Manchester United for Aaron Wan-Bissaka last week after deeming one of the clauses in the deal to be unrealistic.

According to the Guardian, United had an initial offer of £35m rising to a possible £50m with add-ons turned down by the Eagles, in part because of one of the potential installments being based on the club winning the Champions League.

United reached the Champions League quarter-finals last season only to suffer a heavy humiliation at the hands of Barcelona but will be competing in the Europa League next term after finishing sixth in the Premier League.

Given United’s current circumstances, Palace felt that the clause included in the Wan-Bissaka offer was ‘wildly unrealistic’. Palace have grown frustrated over their dealings with United having failed to have met their £50m asking price up front.

Another factor that has played a part in negotiations dragging on is that Palace have attempted to cancel or reduce a 20% sell-on clause in the deal that brought Wilfried Zaha back to Selhurst Park from Old Trafford in 2015.

Although the deal has taken longer than expected to reach a conclusion, it is still expected to be completed eventually and representatives from both clubs met on Monday in an attempt to reach a compromise.

Wan-Bissaka has reportedly agreed terms on an £80,000 per week at United and could even undergo a medical with the club later this week, following England U21s final European Championship game against Croatia.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been desperate to sign Wan-Bissaka following the departure of long-serving club captain Antonio Valencia.

Last season, Wan-Bissaka won 129 tackles in 36 Premier League matches, a total only bettered by Wilfred Ndidi and Idrissa Gueye.
