Cruise: 10 confirmed cases of deadly coronavirus on quarantined Princess Cruises ship


Out of the sufferers, four are in their 50s, four are in their 60s, one is in their 70s, as well as the elderly man who was found to initially be infected.

The Daily Mail reports that the nationalities of the passengers include two Australians, three Japanese passengers, three guests from Hong Kong, one guest from the US, and a Filipino crew member.

They have all been transported to a medical facility, while the rest of the ship remains quarantined for 14 days where it is currently docked just off the coast of Yokahama, Japan.

In a media briefing, Japanese Health Minister Katsunobu Kato assured: “I want to take sufficient care of the health of passengers and crew and make every effort to prevent the spread of the virus.”

A Princess Cruises spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “Princess Cruises can confirm that the first phase of health screening of all guests and crew onboard Diamond Princess, by the Japanese Ministry of Health, has been completed. We were notified that amongst the samples that have completed testing, 10 people have tested positive for Coronavirus. This includes two Australian guests, three Japanese guests, three guests from Hong Kong, and one guest from the U.S. in addition to one Filipino crewmember.

“These 10 persons, who have been notified, will be taken ashore by Japanese Coast Guard watercraft and transported to local hospitals for care by shoreside Japanese medical professionals. It has been confirmed that the ship will remain under quarantine in Yokohama. The length of the quarantine will be at least 14 days as required by the Ministry of Health.”
