Crocs are not just a house shoe, now they’re a fashion statement

Hide your wife. Hide your kids.

And hide your husband.

Because Crocs are no longer a house shoe, they are a fashion statement.

The shoe of choice for chefs, Crocs have the ability to cause a visceral reaction among anyone who encounters their Crosslite soles.

You either love them or hate them. To some, they look like plastic slabs of Swiss cheese, to others, they are havens of unbridled comfort where style is banished to hell.

Like all love/hate fashion items, they have collated a cult following over the years.

Those who live in them swear by them.

And now, Crocs have reached the nirvana of mainstream fashion conversation through the medium of TikTok. Gen Z is embracing the comfort and the unsightly nature of the clog-like shoe.

These cool kids aren’t just wearing Crocs for a stroll from the kitchen to the bathroom or a quick trip to the shops for a carton of Oatley.

No, these style setters are wearing their Crocs under dresses, jeans and mini skirts. They wear Crocs like a pair of high-heels.

They wear Crocs like they were made to resurrect them from the frumpy graveyard and breathe them new life in the middle of a beer garden.

However, the truth is Crocs have always been at the edge of fashion. Collaborations with Christopher Kane, Balenciaga and musician Post Malone show Crocs have an almost untouchable appeal.

But seeing a pair worn under a Misguided dress means this allure is pulling in more than ever before.

Gen-Z queen Olivia Neill may just be another reason why Crocs are a soon-to-be summer hit.

Almost anything she wears has the ability to sell out and in recent weeks she has posted multiple times on social media sporting a pair of orange platform crocs.

Whether under a mini dress or a pair of baggy jeans and a crop top, she somehow manages to make Crocs look like something we should be wearing.

Charleen Murphy, an Irish influencer, is another well-known creator articulating the stylish benefits of Crocs.

In a TikTok video which she captioned ‘I bought Crocs’ she shows her followers her new lime green crocs, paired with a matching shoulder bag and black playsuit.

Charleen says that although she is only 5ft 5 inches, the crocs make her legs look long.

‘I’m kind of obsessed,’ she explains. ‘I thought I would hate them and I wanted to hate them in a way but I love them.’

#Crocs currently has 1.5 billion views, showing just how colossal Crocs mania is becoming.

If you are in the market for a pair to keep up with the Joneses, stick to the on-trend platform type. Not only do they manage to look more stylish than their flat counterpart, the height will prove flattering on all providing height and elongation.

Pair with cropped jeans and a plain T-shirt for a casual look. For night time, wear with a dress and match the colour of your accessories to your footwear. Meanwhile, add an anklet for a touch of summer glam.

Now it goes without saying that everyone will not agree with the Swiss cheese clogs becoming a must-have.

Some will always see them as the ugly ducks who could never become the swan.

Others fear that the strange magnetism of Crocs means they have the ability to take over the world – and we have to agree. Their power is unyielding.

So remember what we said.

Hide your kids. Hide your wife. And hide your husband.

Because Crocs are coming for you.
