Cristiano Ronaldo may have dropped early Man Utd team news hint for Brentford clash

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo may have dropped a hint that he will be back in the team for Wednesday evening’s rescheduled clash with Brentford. The Portuguese missed United’s past two matches with a hip injury, while Ralf Rangnick’s side dropped more points against Aston Villa on Saturday, but was back in training on Monday.

Villa gave the Red Devils a tough time during their recent double header.

Last week, Scott McTominay’s goal ensured a narrow home victory over Steven Gerrard’s side, while they blew a two-goal lead in the weekend’s reverse fixture.

Philippe Coutinho’s debut goal grabbed the headlines, but Bruno Fernandes’ double was also an eyebrow-raising aspect of the 2-2 draw.

Ronaldo and Fernandes have failed to provide sparks on a regular basis when playing together, but the latter clearly took his opportunity to shine in the former’s absence at Villa Park.

Pogba is still working his way back to match fitness after a long-term injury struck in early November.

Rashford, meanwhile, missed Saturday’s clash with Villa but could be in contention to start at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The 24-year-old has struggled for form of late though, with Rangnick giving youngster Anthony Elanga the nod last time out.

And despite the disappointment of dropping two points on their quest for European qualification, Fernandes was full of praise for the winger after his first Premier League start of the campaign.

“I said it last season already, Anthony is a kid that works hard and is prepared to be in the team, prepared to play,” he told MUTV.

“He’s being a top kid, waiting for his moment, training really hard and he deserved the chance that he got today.

“He was, for me, one of the best on the pitch. He gave everything.

“I said to him that my goal started from his header because he won the header. It seems like nothing, but these are really important moments in the games.”

“We are really happy for him because he deserved his chance.”
