Cristiano Ronaldo: Juventus star has epic 5-word reply when asked about Atletico hat-trick

The Portuguese talisman netted three times against his former La Liga rivals to send Juventus into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Juve overturned a 2-0 deficit from the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash to progress to the last eight.

Ronaldo has picked up in Italy where he left in Spain since joining Juve from Real Madrid for £88million last summer – and the forward was at his world-class best with his triple against Atletico, which takes him to 24 goals in all competitions this season.

And the 34-year-old was his usual confident self after the Atletico win, insisting: “That’s why Juve signed me.”

Ronaldo’s signing was partly inspired by Juve’s desire to win the Champions League for the first time since 1996 with the forward the competition’s all-time top goalscorer.

He has been triumphant in Europe in four of the last five seasons and is seeking to become just the second man, after Clarence Seedorf, to win the Champions League with three different clubs.

Ronaldo told Sky Sport Italia: “It had to be a really special night and it was.

“If we continue like this, we have not won yet but we have reasons to be proud and we are on the right way.

“That’s why Juve signed me and I tried to do my best job.

“It’s a magical night. It was a very difficult team to play but we showed that we were a very big team.

“We proceed step by step, we will see.”

The goal to seal Ronaldo’s hat-trick came from the spot after Juve were awarded an 86th minute penalty after Federico Bernadeschi was felled inside the area.

And Ronaldo slammed his spot-kick past Jan Oblak before trolling Atletico boss Diego Simeone with his celebration.

The Juve superstar copied Simeone’s ‘balls’ celebration in front of the Juve faithful, with the Argentine having celebrated emphatically after his side made it 2-0 in the first leg.

Ronaldo’s team-mate Leonardo Bonucci added: “It is a great night for all the Juve people.

“Many were ready to celebrate our defeat, I’m sorry for them. Juve always responds on the pitch.

“We played with the right spirit and our fans were the 12th man tonight.”

Ronaldo and Juventus join Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham, Porto and Ajax in the Champions League quarter-final draw.

In the final two ties on Wednesday night, Bayern Munich host Liverpool with Barcelona looking to get past Lyon at the Nou Camp.

The draw then takes place on Friday at the UEFA headquarters.
